Talented, young, athletic, agile, and quick. These are some of the adjectives that describe a typical athlete. However, you want to stand out from the crowd and be more than just typical. Let's add business owner, entrepreneur, and community servant to this growing list of adjectives.

Every day you are faced with choices that affect your athletic career and having a business or non-profit is a choice that shouldn't be overlooked. If you are professional athlete, you need to consider branding yourself. This could be anything from starting a non-profit to starting your own company or managing your career and finances (e.g. possible tax benefits).  If you are an up-and-coming athlete you should consider:

  1. Will you need a side business to supplement your income? (i.e. starting a shoe line);
  2. Are your finances in good shape?;
  3. Could your career benefit from added exposure?

My blog will focus on some of the legal and business challenges facing today's athletes. I will also discuss how to turn you ability to be a standout athlete or agent into a profitable business venture.

It's time to stop talking about starting that company and time to put the business entity together!
