Dominic Jones should be commended, not for the actions that placed him in jail, but for the actions he has taken since going to jail. Finally, a star athlete who not only accepts his punishment for the choices he made, but one who is taking this negative pause in his life and using it to positively impact others.
He had the same opportunities, distractions, special treatment, celebrity-like status as any other gifted player. And, he fell victim to what many of them do. BUT, the difference between him and them is he says it is his fault. He is not blaming anyone for anything...he only blames himself for what he did. He failed to be a good steward of the blessings afforded him. As many do, they do not see the opportunity for what it is- a privilege.
What The Playbook: Mentoring Initiative looks to do is showcase these examples through its curriculum to college-athletes, so that they can learn from those who came before them and not repeat this cycle of fame and failure.
Thank you Dominic Jones for your courage and maturity....your future will be brighter and more rewarding after this pause in your life. Stay strong and remain encouraged...all things happen for a reason and divine purpose. I can't wait to see yours manifest.
